My hydrostatic body fat test results

I’ve been ridiculously busy lately. This was my schedule yesterday, it wouldn’t have been so bad except I had to be in 4 different cities in one day with lots of driving in between:

  • 8-8:45  Crossfit
  • 9:30-11 Bikram yoga
  • 11:15 Buy coconuts at Asian grocery store
  • 11:40-1:30 Home to relax and eat
  • 2-2:15 Body fat test
  • 3-4:20 School
  • 5:30-6 Coach ice skating basic skills class
  • 6-6:30 Skate
  • 7 Finally home!

But I do enjoy being busy, I find that I am way more productive.

I got my body fat tested in a truck! Check out the calendar on to see if there’s a mobile lab in your city.  It was a super quick process. Step on a scale for weight, measure height, then into the tank you go! You submerge yourself and blow out ALL the air in your lungs so that they can get an accurate measurement. Apparently air shows up as fat. It takes a few seconds and you do it a few times. You’re advised not to eat for at least two hours before because it can affect your results by up to 1.5%, but I had to eat. If you see my schedule, I had no time to eat otherwise!

– I’ve gained 10lbs from my lowest weight (<120lbs) back in May!!
– I’m not 5’6″, I am 5’5″?!
– I am 12.3% body fat!!! This puts me at the 95th percentile with a rating of ‘healthy range.
– My resting metabolic rate was estimated to be 1618 calories a day.

12.3%!?!? The tester had me guess what my percentage would be and asked where I’d want to be. I thought I’d be around 20% and that I’d want to be around 15%. He told me Baskin Robins was around the corner if I wanted to be 15%. No, thanks! Apparently I am right up there with top endurance athletes that he tests! Crazy!!!

It totally made my day and I felt validated as an athlete or something. I had noticed weight gain in the last couple months and I thought it was mostly due to having some rocky eating days. But I had definitely increased my activity level so I guess a lot of it was muscle? My clothes still fit despite the weight gain, so I should’ve known. So where do I go from 12.3%? Maintain? Reduce? I guess I’ll just keep pursuing my fitness goals and see where I end up.

In other news, I’ve renewed my membership at the climbing gym and went the other day after a month away. My hands were burning and my forearms weren’t too happy, but I did feel stronger overall. I didn’t have to downgrade as much as I thought I would! Can’t wait to climb regularly again! I’ve also really missed skating and plan on going a few times a week. So many activities, so little time!

When I’m busy, I don’t have much time to cook. Lots of simple food lately!

Ground buffalo, bacon, onion, egg scramble with avocado, pico de gallo, and jalapeños

Over medium eggs fried in coconut oil, jalapeno, pico de gallo, and avocado

The fresh young coconuts I bought yesterday at an Asian grocery store! $1.49 each compared to $4 at health food stores!! For the exact same thing! I’m obsessed with these, can you tell?
